Why is a user section (try as a 3/16" L bent plate) from a
folded beam 3/16" too long in the BOM? Developed length
should equal inside bends, but seems to add the thickness of
plate.

Hello,

DIN mean "Deutsches Institut für Normung" - in english: "German Institute for standardization". This institute developed a spreadsheet for the additional length of folded plates with a thickness from 1 to 20 mm. The additional length subjects to the thickness of the plate, the angle and the radius of the fold.

Please attend of the unit of length "mm".

Best regards

Hello,

In the case described, Advance Steel calculates the developed lenght by using a median unfold line of the respective profile. You can change the way Advance Steel calculates the unfold line to inner contour, outer contour, pure median line, table and DIN from the default : "Expansion method for unfolding", located in the "General" category.

Best Regards,
Dumitru Berteanu.
