For this example we will create a joint similar to the one shown in the following figure:
First we will create a 1.5m column with a 90° beam 1.5m long. The elements have an IPE 360 section and are made from S235. At the end of the beam we will have a 20 kN force, as shown in the following figure.
After the structural analysis we will obtain the following results:
Activate the "Connection creation" toolbar, and, from it, select the command to create the desired joint: "Create a standard beam-column fixed connection".
Next, select the structural elements connected by this connection: first the column must be selected and then the beam. The connection can be created in the modeling stage or in the analysis stage.
In the "Parameter" option, select "Advance Steel Joint" to open the properties window of the connection. All the parameters defining the connection are found in this window.
Using all the options and parameters in the properties window define the connection characteristics. In this example we will define a connection as shown in the following figure.
To define a connection as shown, enter the following parameters.
The connection does not have an "Additional Rafter".
Select the "Stiffening type" as "Standard". All the options defining the other stiffening types (e.g., "Morris", "Web Doubler", etc.) are not available.
The connection does not have any other stiffener.
After all the parameters are defined for the desired connection, the last option window must be set. On this tab, select the format in which the report will be generated: "RTF" or "HTML".
Even if the connection can be created in the model stage or in the analysis stage, the report can be generated only from the analysis stage. This way the report is generated after the calculation is done and the forces, inside the connection, are known.
To generate the report use the "Report" command.
